Why Do Roller Door Prices Seem to Vary so Much?

Like many things you buy: you have a cheap, moderate, and high-end product quality, but with roller doors it seems a lot more difficult to judge what is really going on.

Roller garage doors manufactured and sold in the UK seem to all be the same or very similar, yet the headline prices advertised vary enormously, so why is this?

We see regular headline adverts from companies selling 'insulated roller doors from £699 installed', sometimes even lower!

When you realise that a standard double skinned insulated aluminium roller door sold as a supply only product will start from around £800 - £900 inc. VAT from any reputable discount online seller, then you have to ask what is going on?

In our experience and from information fed back from customers, there seems to be two reasons:

1. There are currently companies selling very, very cheap aluminium roller doors manufactured from the very thinnest of curtain slats and the cheapest of internal components, with no safety mechanisms compliant with current UK regulations. You can probably install one for a sub £800 price, but what you get may last you a year or so at the most and then guess what, the company has either either gone, or the warranty is not valid. Some may even state they are fully compliant but when you look further into the detail, they are not. Unfortunately we see this all the time.... we get a lot of the phone calls when the door doesn't work anymore.

2. You have companies who lure you in by a low published headline price and then when the salesman/surveyor arrives, the price will inevitably rise. They'll tell you it is not as per the advertised product and in the worst cases we have seen, the price increases several times, even on the day of the door installation!! This practice occurs in a lot of industries, but we have seen it recently occurring specifically with roller garage doors.

How can you get an honest price and decent roller door product installed?

Look towards the most established roller door manufacturers, usually being those that have genuinely been in existence for more than 10 years, and ensure they have certification to show their product complies with all the latest UK regulations regarding safety for remote control electric doors. Also, beware of the companies flooding the internet with false claims and made up customer reviews or testimonials.

There are plenty of them also with the false reviews and comments on social media channels too, all to trick us that they are a super busy and totally honest company selling a great product. Look to Garador, Hormann, Gliderol, SeceuroGlide to name just four, all of who have been around for well over 30 years each. The roller garage doors they manufacturer will be guaranteed, have leading edge components, be totally compliant in safety and specification, but also offer total reliability.

Take a look at the roller door slats below to see just how much they can vary in size and quality between different models!
